Taking Woodstock – coming soon

Monday, October 12th, 2009

takingwoodstockIt’s 1969, and Elliot Tiber, a down-on-his-luck interior designer in Greenwich Village, New York, has to move back upstate to help his parents run their dilapidated Catskills motel, the El Monaco. The bank is about to foreclose; his father wants to burn the place down, but hasn’t paid the insurance; and Elliot is still figuring how to come out to his parents. When Elliot hears that a neighboring town has pulled the permit on a hippie music festival, he calls the producers, thinking he could drum up some much needed business for the motel.

Three weeks later, half a million people are on their way to his neighbor’s farm in White Lake, NY, and Elliot finds himself swept up in a generation-defining experience that would change his life, and American culture, forever.

Taking Woodstock is directed by Academy Award®-winner Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain) with a screenplay by James Schamus (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Ice Storm), based on the book Taking Woodstock by Elliot Tiber. The film stars Demetri Martin (Important Things with Demetri Martin on Comedy Central) as Elliot Tiber, Emile Hirsch (Milk, Into the Wild), and Liev Schreiber (Defiance).

blu_ray_logo_4003It’s unlikely that Blu-ray really needs a lot of help to gain space in people’s living rooms. After winning the most recent format war, and having a wide range of players available, particularly the Playstation 3, it looks like Blu-ray is set to gain in dominance over the coming years.

However DVD still rules due to it’s huge userbase and back catalogue, but that’s where Sony Pictures new website comes into play. experiencebluray.co.uk is a comprehensive website that not only covers all you need to know about the format, but also highlights the huge number of new titles already out, or coming out soon.

Home Alone is Xmas No.1

A new survey has revealed that kids comedy film Home Alone is the nation’s favourite family festive film, with the average British family having watched the Oscar nominated movie starring Macaulay Culkin no less than ten times.

More than 3,000 parents took part in the survey which asked participants to select their favourite festive movies, to celebrate the launch of the new premium family movie channel Disney Cinemagic HD.

Home Alone won out thanks to its ‘feel good’ storyline and association with the festive season, pipping other family favourites including The Snowman and The Wizard of Oz into top spot.

Winning out in the less desirable list of festive flops, Santa with Muscles, starring former WWF wrestler Hulk Hogan topped the list with 13% of the votes. Love Actually also made it into the top five films considered festive turkeys. (more…)

Ryan and Redmon O'Neal

Ryan and Redmon O'Neal

Ryan O’Neal and his 23-year-old son, Redmond, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine, LA County police say.

Police Officers were conducting a routine check of Redmond, who is serving three years probation after pleading guilty to drug possession charges in June, when the drugs were found.

Both men were released on bail, set at $10,000 (£5,500) each.

Ryan O’Neal, 67, is still best known for the 1970 film “Love Story”. Redmond is his son by actress Farrah Fawcett.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Associated Press that, in addition to the drugs suspected to belong to Redmond O’Neal, they also found narcotics in his fathers living area.
